A complete session on making a short illustrated sequence. The early chapters spend time on structure, panels, lettering, and page arrangement before the drawing and colour pass.

Places to begin.

A small exercise.

  1. Step 01

    Four small boxes

Plan a harmless everyday sequence: making tea, finding a pencil, or watering a plant. Give each box one clear action.

  2. Step 02

    Read before drawing

Place the short lines of text first. Make sure the reading order is obvious without decoration.

  3. Step 03

    Keep the shapes simple

Use a few repeated shapes and one accent colour. Leave enough space around the words.

  4. Step 04

    Compare two arrangements

Export two versions of the layout and review them at phone size.
