A short 2024 demonstration of previewing a website’s typography, colours and individual blocks in the Style Book. The broader exercise works with any small page: compare the ordinary elements together before committing to a visual style.

Places to begin.

A small exercise.

  1. Step 01

    An ordinary specimen

Make a practice page with a heading, a paragraph, a button, a quotation, and an image.

  2. Step 02

    Choose a small palette

Try one background, one text colour and one accent. Check the button and ordinary links as well as the heading.

  3. Step 03

    Check the whole page

Compare the elements together. Look for inconsistent spacing, overly small text, and weak contrast.

  4. Step 04

    Save a comparison

Keep two small exports or screenshots and a note explaining which settings you chose and why.

Keep a copy.
